What if there were a God TV, God Tube, or God Channel?

I once told a friend that I really wish there had been video cameras in the days of Jesus. I would like to see that tape! He replied that God obviously intended it otherwise and chose the circumstances of Jesus’s arrival in the world intentionally. The time for his coming was theologically “full.” There was no reason to delay another moment. In other words, it would have been other than the perfect plan of God if it has been otherwise, thus–no tape, no God Tube for me!

But who can really argue the point? Would not 99% of our questions about a ton of things be answered if in fact there were a God Channel we could flip to? What if there were such a God TV network on right now with little cameras recording every single one of God’s actions across the world moment by moment? The highlights could be found on God Tube to be viewed at your leisure. New Anchors at God TV would break in with ‘breaking news.’ We would all be glued to our sets…

And–perhaps we would all stop acting in the world as agents or representatives on his behalf. We could just click click click while the world went to hell. Why should we do anything else? We can see all-powerful actions on the tube.

We could see this “God of War” this “God of Carnage” (Yahweh Armies) in action destroying those who would destroy the earth. We could cry along with the world as small children all around the world died of very preventable things one by one, slowly, painfully. Perhaps, if such a God Channel could show God as a human form in these actions, comforting the sick, infirm, starving, suffering, abused we would see him cry too. Tears streaming down his face as another precious little one was lost–unnecessarily. Perhaps this great God would turn and look at said little camera with tears in his eyes and a look on his face that we would instantly recognize as a question asking us why we were not there helping him get the job done…click…

He is getting it all done. What need would there be for us?

Maybe the creation of the scripture was more of a risk to create than I realized.
